CTA reels for coaches are Instagram reels that end with a call to action, like "comment macro below," which triggers an automation that DMs your freebie and opens a conversation you can convert into a high ticket client. Most coaches stop at the freebie and never follow up, so all that engagement turns into zero new sales. I was on a call with a coach who has tens of thousands of followers and great engagement, yet he still struggled to generate sales every month because he didn't know how to convert followers into clients. This is the method that fixes that, and it can add five or even six figures to a coaching business on its own.
I've worked with a handful of coaches and studied the operations of many more who use this exact play to generate five to six figures a month. Below I walk through the automation, the conversation framework, and the precise numbers behind closing one high ticket client a day, worth between 2,000 and 10,000 dollars per deal.
The 5 pieces of a CTA reel funnel
Before the numbers, here is the whole system at a glance so you can see where each part fits:
- A CTA reel that tells people to comment a keyword for a freebie.
- An automation that replies in the comments and DMs the freebie.
- A 3 minute follow-up that opens a real conversation.
- A qualifying framework that books the call.
- A VA, then AI, that runs it all at volume.
Miss any one of these and the funnel leaks. Most coaches have pieces 1 and 2 and quit there.
The common problem: a great brand with no way to monetize it
A lot of coaches have amazing brands but no idea how to monetize them and close high ticket clients. In the video above I hop onto my phone for a live walkthrough of one.
I'm in the reels section, and this guy shares five foods you think are high protein but actually aren't. His caption delivers all of that value, then ends with a call to action: comment macro below and I'll send you access to my macro calculator. So I comment the word. He replies: "Hey, saw you commented on my post about macro calculator. Just click the button below or reply macro to gain access to this calculator." I click, and the calculator comes through.
Most coaches have exactly this set up, and they do send the freebie. What they miss is reaching out after the freebie to turn the people who commented into people who pay a high ticket price for their coaching program. The fix is to keep sharing free value to your community, then layer a conversation on top that converts the best of them into clients.
How to build the automation in ManyChat
The software running that macro calculator handoff is ManyChat, and it is what you use to automate most of this. The part most people skip is the follow-up. After someone gets the freebie, you reach out with something like, "Hey, it's Liam here, and not my chatbot. There's a few ways you could use this to reach your goals. Mind if I ask you a few questions to help you get started?" That single message opens a conversation, and once the lead starts sharing information you can progress them toward becoming a paying client.
Here is how the flow runs:
- On any post or reel, when someone comments the keyword, say ABS, it triggers the automation.
- You auto-reply in the comments: done, it's in your DMs, or check your DMs. This is all automated, and it is legal.
- You DM them: "Hey, thanks for the love and engagement on my post. Comment ABS." They reply yes or click the button, and it sends the link to the freebie.
- After three minutes, you reach out again with, "Hey, it's me here, not my chatbot." It is a small white lie, but the intent is to help them solve their specific problem, and it is a great opener.
I keep the build itself short here. If you want the full comment-to-DM version, I break down Instagram reels leads for coaches step by step, and the timing on those automated follow-ups in Instagram DM follow-up automation.
The conversation framework that books the call
Once they reply yes, you start asking about their goals. The point is to qualify and build trust at the same time, so you only spend energy on leads in real pain.
- Ask what goals they're working toward. Customize this to your niche.
- Ask what they've tried so far. This shows where they are in their journey and how much help they need, and it signals that you care about solving their problem.
- Ask if they like the results they're getting. If yes, they're not in pain and unlikely to buy, so tell them "great, keep up the good work" and end it there.
- If they don't like their results and want to change, they're in deep pain, so continue. Ask what they think is slowing them down.
- Check their priority. Is finding the right steps actually a priority for them right now? If yes, say, "I have ideas to accelerate your progress. Would you be opposed to a short call?"
- If they're not opposed, send the calendar link and ask them to message you once they book.
This is a simplified version you can adapt to your own offer, and it has generated thousands of dollars for the coaches whose operations I've worked on. For the exact wording at each step, see my breakdown of the best Instagram DM script for coaches.
How many comments do you need to close one client a day?
You need about 60 comments a day on average. These are actual numbers my clients are getting, so they're real, not hypothetical. Here is the funnel from comment to close:
- 30% of the people who comment the keyword reply to the message and click the button.
- 80% of those who click then view or open the freebie. This number doesn't really matter.
- 70% of those who click respond to the outreach message, which is what lets you start a conversation.
- 20% of those who respond book a call.
- 40% of those who book actually close, at around 2,000 to 3,000 dollars each.
Reverse engineering it from one close a day
Work backward from one deal to the comment volume you need:
- Divide one close by the 40% closing rate to get 2.5 calls booked a day.
- Divide 2.5 by 20% to get 12.5 leads responding to the outreach.
- Divide 12.5 by 70% to get 18 leads clicking the button.
- Divide 18 by 30% to get roughly 60 comments.
So 60 comments a day on average is the number behind one high ticket deal a day. At a 2K offer, that is 2 times 30, or $60,000 you can generate every month from this method alone.
How to scale with volume, a VA, then AI
The growth lever is simple: make more content, get more people commenting, split test your messages to find what converts, and keep refining. Then take yourself out of the day to day so it runs on autopilot.
- Hire someone to handle the outreach and follow-ups: a VA or an appointment setter.
- When the volume of DMs and comments grows past what one person can handle, add AI.
That is exactly what I do with my clients. Most already have VAs and setters, so I implement an AI system that handles the repetitive work and the follow-ups, which lets them close one, two, even up to ten high ticket deals a day off the same engagement. For the deeper version of that build, I break it down in AI appointment setting for coaches.
